Rome Private Experience

About Us

A private travel company built around a simple idea: Rome becomes more meaningful when it is experienced through the people, places and stories that truly belong to it.

Our Story

Rome is not a collection of landmarks.

It is a city that reveals itself slowly — through context, conversation and places most visitors would never think to look for.

Rome Private Experience was created to design private journeys for travelers who want more than a sequence of famous sites. We approach Rome as a living city: layered, complex and deeply connected to the people who know it best.

Every experience begins with the traveler rather than with a predetermined itinerary. From there, we select the guide, route, places and details that can make that particular visit meaningful.

A City Understood Over Time

Knowing Rome changes how you experience it.

The most famous monuments are only the beginning. Around them are centuries of private residences, churches, archaeological layers, hidden courtyards, family histories and stories that often remain invisible to the passing visitor.

Our work is to understand how those layers connect and to decide which ones belong in your journey — not simply to add more stops to an itinerary.

Daniele Avanzato

Founder & Curator of Rome Private Experience

For more than a decade, my work has been centred on one city: Rome.

During those years I have worked closely with guides, historians, cultural professionals, private groups and international travelers, organising experiences across archaeological sites, historic neighbourhoods, churches, underground spaces and locations that are rarely part of the conventional visitor itinerary.

That experience has shaped the way I think about private travel. The value of an exceptional visit is not simply access to a beautiful place. It is knowing why that place matters, when to visit it, who should tell its story and how it fits within the rest of a guest’s time in Rome.

Rome Private Experience grew from that approach. I wanted to create something more personal than a catalogue of tours: a way of designing journeys one request at a time, combining specialist knowledge, carefully selected guides and places capable of revealing a different side of the city.

Today, I remain personally involved in the development and curation of our experiences. Together with our team and network of licensed guides and specialists, I evaluate each request, identify the right people and possibilities, and shape the experience around the travelers themselves.

The objective is simple: not to show you as much of Rome as possible, but to make the Rome you do experience worth remembering.

Our Guide Network

A wider network of senior guides and specialists.

Rome Private Experience works with a long-established network of senior licensed guides, archaeologists, art historians and specialist professionals selected according to the subject, character and requirements of each experience.

Many have spent years — often decades — interpreting Rome’s monuments, museums, archaeological sites and historic neighbourhoods for international visitors.

Three of the specialists whose recurring observations help shape our Research and Field Notes.

Giulia Maria Anglani, archaeologist and Rome guide
Archaeologist · Underground Rome

Giulia Maria Anglani

An archaeologist with ten years of guiding experience in Rome, Giulia works especially well with underground archaeology, early Christian sites and places where the historical layers of the city have to be reconstructed rather than simply observed.

Contributor to our Field Notes on the catacombs, underground Rome and the relationship between ancient street levels and the modern city.

Marco Rossi, art historian and Rome guide
Art Historian · Vatican & Colosseum

Marco Rossi

An art historian and experienced Rome guide, Marco’s field observations often focus on the distance between what visitors expect to find at Rome’s best-known monuments and what those places actually reveal.

Contributor to our Field Notes on the Colosseum, Vatican Museums and Rome’s artistic heritage.

Laura Antonucci, archaeologist and Rome guide
Archaeologist · Roman Forum & Ostia

Laura Antonucci

An archaeologist with more than a decade of guiding experience, Laura focuses on how ancient spaces are read in context: from the Roman Forum and the political city to Ostia Antica and the everyday archaeology of Roman urban life.

Contributor to our Field Notes on the Roman Forum, Julius Caesar, Circus Maximus and Ostia Antica.

Our Field Notes capture recurring questions and observations gathered on the ground by experienced professionals, then developed through historical and archaeological research.

How We Work

Curated, not packaged.

We do not begin by asking which product you want to buy. We begin by understanding what would make your time in Rome genuinely worthwhile.

01

We Listen

Your dates, interests, pace, previous visits, group and priorities determine where the process begins.

02

We Select

Guides, specialists, routes and possible locations are chosen according to the experience rather than assigned automatically.

03

We Refine

Timing, sequence and details are considered together so that the day feels coherent rather than like a collection of reservations.

Why Rome Private Experience

The difference is in the decisions.

Tailor-Made Itineraries

No two journeys need to be identical. Experiences can be adapted around your interests, timing, pace and the people travelling with you.

Senior Guides, Built Over Time

We work with a broad network of experienced licensed guides, archaeologists, art historians and specialists developed through years of working in Rome, selecting the right professional according to the subject and character of each experience.

Hidden & Exceptional Rome

Alongside Rome’s essential monuments, we seek out quieter places, unusual perspectives and special possibilities that can add genuine depth to a visit.

Personally Managed

From the first conversation to the final arrangements, every request is managed individually rather than processed through a standardised booking system.

Selective by Design

Access, availability and suitability can change. We prefer to recommend selectively rather than promise everything, choosing only the guides, places and possibilities that genuinely fit the journey in front of us.

Your Rome Begins Here

Begin with a conversation.

Tell us when you will be in Rome, who you are travelling with and what you hope to discover. We will take it from there.
